Nachshen Donia

Born in 1903 of Russian descent, Donia Nachshen studied at the Slade School of Art, London. She was a prolific artist, primarily of portraits and book illustrations, her intense black and white drawings accompanying the work of writers such as Oscar Wilde and Samuel Butler. Donia Nachshen also produced artwork for several GPO posters, and is particularly well known for her design for the “Make-do and Mend” poster published by the Board of Trade during WW11.
